Carr Amp & Gibson ES 175 Guitar

Here's an unbeatable combination for the accomplished Jazz guitarist. I spotted this rig recently at a performance at a small club in Carrboro, NC. Man what a gorgeous full sound. The Gibson speaks for itself, but that Carr Rambler is simply awesome! The sound coming from that amp is ethereal (for lack of a better word) and incredibly clean and natural. And in a Jazz environment it has kind of a floating presence. I want one of each. Carr N Guitar!

Neal Young's LincVolt

When it comes to Cars-N-Guitars ...not many Rockers are into cool rides quite like Neal Young. Here he is with the famous LincVolt. A 1960 Lincoln Continental converted to an all electric drive-train. Guess it takes imagination and a whole lot of extra cash to come up with something like this one!

He started his collection in late 1968 with the purchase of 1930's Bentley. Not a bad first car. The Buffalo Springfield royalties must have been pretty decent after all. More on Neal and his guitars later.

George Harrison's cars-n-guitars

Today marks the 10th Anniversary of George Harrison's passing. At 58, he of course died much too young and it's truly amazing what he accomplished in his life-time, within and without the Fab Four.

His music will always be his primary legacy, but his love of Cars and Guitars was definitely a passion as well. I haven't been able to dig up a comprehensive list of vehicles he owned throughout his life yet. Lots of Mini Coopers, Mercedes Benz, Jags and BMW's no doubt and of course that fabulous McLaren! Wow!

Guitar-wise, we could start with the beautiful Gretsch Duo-Jet, Country Gentleman, Tennessean, Rickenbacker 360-12 string, Ramirez Classical, Gibson SG, Les Paul, J-200 and numerous Strats, Telecasters (etc,etc). Again, Wow!

He loved Formula 1 racing, was best friends with Jackie Stewart, Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, Jeff Lynne, Dave Edmunds, Paul & Ringo, the cast of Monty Python and had a wonderful sense of humour.

Just thinking of our friend George today.

My Stratocaster, "Vincent"

The guitar featured on my Cars-n-Guitars.com homepage is none other than my personal favorite Strat, "Vincent". It's named after the famous (or infamously-legendary) Vincent "Black Shadow" motorcycle of the early 1950's. The nick-name "Blackie" was already taken. Much thanks to Jim Dennis, owner of the Carrboro Music Loft in N. Carolina for bring this wonderful instrument to my attention. Does anyone out there share my preference for black Fender Stratocasters? (silly question) More images to come!

1960 Olds Dynamic 88

I just love walking around exploring a new town (with my camera handy) and finding a gem like this parked at the curb looking just as natural as can be, even though it's over 50 years old. This shot was taken in Charleston, SC in the historic district (of course). What a great looking ride!

Cars N Guitars: Me and Peter Egan

Hello there!

So, here is the first entry to my new Blog that will hopefully support my new website, Cars-n-Guitars.com.

The inspiration for this on-line adventure comes from none other than Road & Track, Editor-at-large, Peter Egan (and of course my life-long interest/love affair with both Cool Cars and Beautiful Guitars). For years, Mr. Egan has been writing about his automotive experiences behind the wheel, under the hood, beneath the oil pan and occasionally just hanging-out in his garage (beverage in hand) admiring his latest four-wheeled infatuation. Peter also manages to slip-in some mention of his current Stratocaster guitar and trusty old Fender Deluxe-Reverb amp or some poignant musical metaphor to spice up his already brilliant monthly column.

There's always something in that "Side Glances" column that I can relate to since we seem to share the same taste in both Cars ...and Guitars. To me Peter Egan has The Dream Job!?! (or would that be Jeremy Clarkson?) Anyway, for a while ...it's my turn to have some fun. "Laissez les bons temps rouler!"
